Professional Service vs Self Designing – Logo for Blog
For travel blogs, your logo should convey the message at first glance. It should be attractive enough for anyone to notice. People spend a lot of money just to get a perfect logo. There is no need to get the logo made by a professional designer. It will cost more and it might not be worth it. At least when you are just starting out.
Logo for your Travel Blog
There is plenty of tools available online to design your perfect logo. All you need is some creativity and a vision. You will also find plenty of resources and tutorials online.
How to decide the design of the logo?
Ask yourself, what meaning you want to convey from your logo. It will be the most visible element of your presentations, blogs, and other materials.
A logo is composed of different elements that can be easily noticed. There are numerous ways to determine the design of a logo for your travel blog. Prepare a list of elements that you wish to include in your logo.
How do you travel? Where do you travel? Are you a mountain person or an ocean person? Do you travel on flights or a motorbike? Do you travel for photography? Once you decide the answers you will have a list of elements that may become a part of your logo. Pick up the most important elements.
Logo can be minimalist or complex design depending on your liking and how you want to present the brand. People often include elements like Plane, Bikes, Cars, Mountains, Palm trees, Oceans, and more. These elements are complemented by abstract shapes and patterns. You can also choose different color pallets to include in your travel blog logo.
This is the logo that I designed myself using online tools. I am not a graphic artist and have no knowledge of design.
As you can see there are multiple elements in the logo. Mountains, Trees, Roads, Desert, Plains, Highlands, and an iconic cutout of me resting on my motorcycle. All these elements represent what I want the brand to be about.
MOTOLOGS – a rearview mirror story
The tagline is exactly what this travel blog and associated content are going to be about. While we move forward traveling in life, what’s left is the story one realizes in the rearview mirror while looking at all the memories made. A tagline should complement your brand or blog name while making the objective of the blog apparent to guess.
Tools for Designing Travel Blog Logo
I have used Canva Pro to design the logo. For picking up color pallets I used a pallet picker app after settling in sunset orange as the primary color. Orange also signifies safety and yellow compliments with playfulness. The font selection is carefully decided to be in harmony with logo elements. For the cut out I used this original image from one of the most inspiring road trips that I took to the remote mountains of Upper Mustang in Nepal.
I had to convert this into photo art using an app called GoArt and carefully extract the cutout using the Background Eraser app. This is much easier to do in Adobe Photoshop with the lasso tool, but phones are getting efficient at any task thrown at them. A powerful processor in the phone helps in quick and accurate renders.
Once you have all your elements you can use an app like Canva Pro to combine all of them and realign. I picked up a unique shape which makes it noticeable. It also acts as a location marker. The circles emphasize the focus on the center while the sunset pallets in the corner balance out the elements.
So once you decide on all the elements of your travel blog logo, you can use one of many templates or design unique shapes using multiple tools. Most of the apps I suggested are free and powerful enough for a professional project.
